Ulrich Sommerrock, born in 1956, studied the lute under Konrad Junghänel at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. He has attended the Early Music International Summer Academy in Innsbruck on several occasions and has participated in special performance courses (amongst others with Paul O'Dette) focusing on historical performance techniques applied to the different instruments of the lute family as well as historically-informed early music performance practice.
He has applied his profound musical knowledge to the solo song of the 16th and 17th centuries. His thesis on the English lute song was published in 1990.
He has been involved in several recordings (Lps and Cds) and radio broadcasts as well as in numerous concerts locally and abroad both as a continuo player and as a soloist.
Ulrich Sommerrock is the artistic director of the Ingolstadt-based project "Music in the Museum".
